Calendar Updates! (December 14 - January 2)

I hope everyone had an excellent holiday. Now, back to the updates. (This post is really long...)

December 14
1992: Hermione Granger continues brewing Polyjuice Potion in the Second-floor girls' lavatory.

1969: Ralph Ineson, the actor who plays Amycus Carrow, is born.

December 16
1775: Jane Austen, the muggle author who wrote Pride and Prejudice, Emma, and Sense and Sensibility, is born.
1992: Hermione Granger continues brewing Polyjuice Potion in the Second-floor girls' lavatory.


1975: Tony Christian, the British actor who plays a Slytherin Beater in the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.


December 17
1992: Harry Potter attends the Duelling Club, where it is revealed that he can speak Parseltongue, rendering him suspicious in the eyes of some Hogwarts students.
1997: Harry Potter and Hermione Granger decide to visit Godric’s Hollow.


December 18
1991: The Gryffindor first year students have an Astronomy Class at midnight, on the top of the Astronomy Tower.
1992: A blizzard covers the school, causing the last Herbology lesson of the term to be cancelled. Justin Finch-Fletchley and Nearly Headless Nick are petrified by Slytherin's Basilisk. Fawkes the Phoenix has a Burning Day.
1993: A trip to Hogsmeade village takes place. Fred and George Weasley give Harry Potter the Marauder's Map, in order to allow the latter to sneak into Hogsmeade. At the Three Broomsticks, Harry overhears Cornelius Fudge, Filius Flitwick, Minerva McGonagall, Rubeus Hagrid, and Madam Rosmerta discussing Sirius Black's supposed double-cross.
1994: Severus Snape gives a test on antidotes to his Fourth year students. Harry Potter asks Cho Chang and Ron Weasley asks Fleur Delacour to the Yule Ball; both were unsucessful.
1995: Harry Potter and Cho Chang share a kiss under the mistletoe after the last Dumbledore's Army meeting of the term. That night, Harry has a dream about Arthur Weasley being attacked by Nagini at the Department of Mysteries. Harry Potter and the Weasley children are sent to 12 Grimmauld Place by Portkey from Dumbledore's office.

1975: James Payton, the actor who played Neville Longbottom's father Frank Longbottom, is born.

December 19
1993: End of the term; the Hogwarts Express takes some students to London. Harry Potter receives a note from Rubeus Hagrid, informing him that Buckbeak's hearing is scheduled for 20 April.
1996: Harry Potter and Hermione Granger are kicked out of the Hogwarts Library by Irma Pince after being caught in conversation. Once back at the Gryffindor Tower, Romilda Vane tries to slip Harry a Love Potion.


December 20
1993: Harry Potter, Ronald Weasley, and Hermione Granger start working on Buckbeak's defence.
1995: End of the term at Hogwarts School; Hermione Granger arrives at 12 Grimmauld Place.
1996: Professor Horace Slughorn hosts a Christmas party in his office for his favourite students and other associates. Harry Potter discovers that Professor Severus Snape made an Unbreakable Vow with Narcissa Malfoy concerning her son.
1997: Luna Lovegood is kidnapped by Death Eaters while on her ride back home on the Hogwarts Express.

December 21
1991: In the morning, Rubeus Hagrid sets up the Twelve Christmas Trees at the Great Hall for the Christmas feast.
1992: End of the term; the Hogwarts Express takes some students back to London.
1996: The term ends; Ronald Weasley and Harry Potter return to The Burrow.

1966: Martin Bayfield, who played a young Rubeus Hagrid, is born.

December 22

December 23
1991: The school term ends. The Hogwarts Express returns to London with some students.


December 24
1997: Harry Potter visits his parents' grave for the first time. Harry and Hermione are attacked at Godric's Hollow by Nagini and narrowly escape Lord Voldemort's grasp. Harry's wand is broken in their escape.

December 25
1991: Harry Potter receives his late father's Cloak of Invisibility and discovers the Mirror of Erised during a late-night adventure. He also receives the wooden flute from Hagrid that will later help him put Fluffy to sleep.
1992: Hermione Granger finishes brewing Polyjuice Potion, which Harry Potter and Ron Weasley use to disguise themselves as Gregory Goyle and Vincent Crabbe and interrogate Draco Malfoy. Hermione's transformation goes badly, giving her the appearance of Millicent Bulstrode's cat, complete with tail.
1993: Harry Potter receives a Firebolt broomstick from his godfather and late father's best friend Sirius Black, which is later confiscated from him by Professor Minerva McGonagall. Professor Remus Lupin is absent from Christmas lunch due to his lycanthropy.
1996: Minister for Magic Rufus Scrimgeour accompanies Percy Weasley to the Burrow, where he pressures Harry Potter to support the Ministry of Magic. Harry refuses, and confirms his loyalty to Albus Dumbledore.
1997: Harry Potter wakes up at the Forest of Dean and recovers from a snake bite from Nagini, with Hermione Granger's help. Also, Ron Weasley discovers that he can hear bits of his friends' conversations through his Deluminator, if they say his name.

1996 (non-canonical; film and video game only): After supper, Bellatrix Lestrange and Fenrir Greyback try to lure Harry Potter out of The Burrow. They give up when Arthur Weasley, Nymphadora Tonks and Remus Lupin fight back. Before Apparating, they set fire to The Burrow.

December 26
1991: Harry Potter returns to the Mirror of Erised, this time bringing Ron Weasley with him.
1997: Hermione Granger takes over the watch in the Forest of Dean in the day's early hours. Harry Potter spends a night of "little sleep".


December 27
1991: Harry Potter returns to the Mirror of Erised, and encounters Albus Dumbledore, who advises him that "it is not wise to dwell on dreams and forget to live."
1997: Harry Potter spends a night of "little sleep" in the Forest of Dean

December 28
1694: Mary II, former Queen of England and wife of King William III, dies.
1997: Ron Weasley returns to his friends Harry Potter and Hermione Granger using the Deluminator left to him by Albus Dumbledore. He saves Harry's life by pulling him from a frozen pond and destroys the locket Horcrux with Godric Gryffindor's Sword. [1]

1934: Maggie Smith, the actress who portrays Professor Minerva McGonagall, is born

December 29
1997: Ron Weasley explains the Taboo jinx on Voldemort's name. Ron and Hermione Granger convince Harry Potter to visit Xenophilius Lovegood.

December 30
1997: Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley visit Xenophilius Lovegood, who tells them of the legend of the Deathly Hallows. In an attempt to get his daughter Luna back from Death Eaters, Xenophilius attacks them, but the trio manages to escape. [1]

December 31
1926: Tom Marvolo Riddle is born to Tom Riddle Sr. and Merope Gaunt at Wool's Orphanage in London, England. His father is not present for the event, and Merope dies shortly afterwards.
January 1
1997Molly Weasley spends much of her time crying after her son Percy's visit on Christmas Day.

1948: Pam Ferris, the actress who played Aunt Marge, is born.
1969: Verne Troyer is born. He was the actor who portrayed Griphook (though he didn't voice him), the goblin who shows Rubeus Hagrid and Harry Potter around inside Gringotts Wizarding Bank.
1978: Daisy Haggard, who provided the voice for the lift to the Ministry of Magic in the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, is born.

January 2
1993: The Hogwarts Express returns to Hogsmeade after the Christmas holidays.

1995: My birthday!
